Evaluating rural roads programmes: A general equilibrium analysis

چکیده

The structure employed is a small open economy, with one city and rural hinterland, two traded goods, transport sector, specific factors, mobile labour. A socially profitable programme will promote not only internal, but also external trade. Theory numerical examples indicate that aggregate social profitability its distribution between town country are rather insensitive to the city’s location whether: (i) it financed by tariff or an excise on importable; (ii) transportation wage regulated; (iii), when agents risk neutral, economy’s barter terms of trade fluctuate stochastically.

Rural Roads

INTRODUCTION Rural Road connectivity is a key component of rural development, since it promotes access to economic and social services, thereby generating increased agricultural productivity, non-agriculture employment as well as non-agricultural productivity, which in turn expands rural growth opportunities and real income through which poverty can be reduced. A study (Fan et al. 1999) carried...

Evaluating policy interventions with general equilibrium externalities

This paper describes a method for quantifying the effects of nonseparable externalities (or public goods) on public policies with important general equilibrium consequences. We calibrate a general equilibrium model with nonseparable air quality benefits in order to measure the excess burden and total net benefits of a new energy tax in the 1995 U.S. economy. With and without the nonseparable ai...

Trade Reform and the Poor in Morocco: A Rural-Urban General Equilibrium Analysis of Reduced Protection

Morocco is currently about to start reducing industrial protection in the context of its association agreement with the European Union. However, agriculture, which represents the major income source for the disfavored rural population, is the sector that is most strongly protected. In this study, a general equilibrium model of Morocco is used as a laboratory for analyzing the short-run equilibr...

Trade Liberalization and Complementary Domestic Policies: A Rural-Urban General Equilibrium Analysis of Morocco

In this study, a dynamically recursive general equilibrium model of Morocco is used to examine alternative trade and domestic policy scenarios involving the implementation of the EU Association Agreement for the period 1998-2012. The model has a detailed treatment of the agricultural and rural economy in Morocco. The results for the trade liberalization scenarios indicate that tariff unificatio...

Crash Prediction on Rural Roads

Historical data confirm that rural roadways carry less than half of America’s traffic but account for the majority of the nation’s vehicular deaths. According to NHTSA, Wyoming has the highest crash fatality rate in the nation with a reported 2009 road death rate of 24.6 per 100,000 population, more than twice the national average of 11.0. High speed two-lane rural roads are believed to contrib...
